I've been a little pre-occupied lately with my computer. Let me explain and I'm hoping that someone will have a solution. I have an iMac 24 the program that downloads and stores the photo's is iPhoto. A few weeks ago all the photos just disappeared, I found that this is not uncommon for this program. I had about a 1/3 on CD's the rest not (my fault) I've tried and I had someone try to retrieve them no luck. So if anyone with a mac has had a similiar problem I'd like to hear from you.

Nice shot. I bought my first stereo at 2001.1 Sorry about your photos. I have a mac but I don't use iPhoto. I use the Canon browser and Adobe Bridge. I think iPhoto stores all your shots into the "My Pictures" folder but I am not sure. Hope you can find them.

That's a bummer! I hope you didn't use your storage as usual and left it untouched; if so, then there's still hope and your data might not get lost. I think some of these tools may help you. In any case you should do a consistency check of your storage device because issues like this are just a warning, the next error might be fatal.

When I look at this I think about being attacked by commisioned salespeople as soon as I walk through the door. It's lit up like a vegas casino. Great framing and treatment on this one Joe, I hope you escaped with your wallet.

I just read your issue. If you haven't already figured this out, iPhoto is crap. You should abandon it for lightroom right away. I think you can still recover those images because iPhoto only points to where they are, they don't actually live in iPhoto. I think I remember a similar thing happening to me and I was able to find the files eventually by searching for them. Also if you don't have an external drive set up to do a backup everytime you start your photo program, you need to get one immediately. One nice thing about lightroom is that you can set it up to back up images automatically upon import and also to back up your edits each time it starts up, and its also not nearly the memory pig that iPhoto is. Your probably cursing me for stating the obvious, I hope you are able to recover everything.

Love these neon shots of yours . . . sobering how 'dated' 2001 already seems to feel.

I sign that shouts.

I meant, "a" sign that SHOUTS!
I don't have a Mac, but as far as computer files go, "delete" doesn't mean delete. It just means the directory entry pointing to those files has been toggled off. With the right tools, you could even recover a file that had been wholly or partially written over --just ask our FBI. As Oswegan indicates, in your case, there might not have even been a delete that removed the actual directory entry --just a pointer removed from the iPhoto program. In the Nikon software that came with my camera --for downloading-- when you erase files it doesn't actually do anything but remove the file names from that particular software's file list. It doesn't do anything to the files actually on the hard drive.
So, you probably just need to find the files, and don't even have to recover anything. But as Mad indicates, I'm sure there are recovery tools readily available for the Mac if you do need to recover any files. However, since you don't have FBI level recovery tools, anything that has been overwritten will be lost. I use an external drive for backup (not that I am diligent as I should be in backing up). And because I have old computers I don't use with hard drives and internal drives are so cheap, I bought a USB drive reader for about $30, that allows me to access any internal hard drive through a USB port, and I'm toying with using this to backup my images (this reader is basically just a power supply and drive cable that converts any internal hardrive into a USB device).

Great title for this shot. I hope you're able to recover your photos. Good luck.
